How it works

How SHITAKUNAI Works

Too many choices can turn a small obligation into a project. We try to do the opposite.

1. Start with the problem

We organize guides around situations, not giant product categories.

Instead of “What are the 100 best Halloween costumes?” we'd rather answer “I have to dress up for work. What's the easiest reasonable option?”

2. Check the $0 solution first

Buying something isn't automatically the answer. If something you already own can reasonably solve the problem, we'll say so.

3. Look for the smallest useful addition

If the $0 option doesn't quite work, the next question is usually: Can one thing fix it?

4. Upgrade only when it matters

Sometimes a complete product or more elaborate solution really is more convenient. When that's the case, we'll explain why it may be worth considering.

5. Stop

Once the problem is reasonably solved, we don't think you need another 37 options.

Spend less. Do less. Decide less.

Then go do something you'd rather be doing.
